The Fighter is a drama movie with a good story from beginning to end and contains two brilliant performances that could be considered one of the best throughout 2010. Working-class neighborhood in Lowell, Massachusetts, were realized in detail, and Mark Wahlberg, as a welterweight boxer Micky Ward (this figure really is), became the center of audience sympathy. It was, all that watching The Fighter will argue that this is a quality film.
However, there is the side that "not honest" in this movie. Micky Ward is a tough fighter in the ring but, outside of the ring, he is the figure of a passive and powerless against the influence of her mother, who is also his manager (Melissa Leo) and his brother, Dick (Christian Bale), who also coaches where common misunderstandings among them. Both are practically useless for Micky. Her mother did not have the business acumen that can take him to the big fight while Dick is a narcotic addict that can not be relied upon even for small things.
Mothers and Dickie are parasites, they live off the suffering and pain experienced by Micky. They banded together to take advantage of Mickey. It is the suppression of the appearance Bale and Leo. Although located at the corner of Mickey during the fight, they are not a good team for Micky.
The mother and Dick are antagonist in this film and not the boxers who became opponent Micky. So naturally if Bale and Leo should display the figure of the monster that they had never displayed before. Leo lost the aura of solemnity and display only sex bomb character that can survive in the world of men. Bale presents a beautiful appearance. By lowering his weight 30 pounds, he shows that Dick felt he was the champion of environmental authorities. Bale neat appearance comes from a good observation and accuracy of physical and psychological. bale was the totality here to play a role, it can be said one of his best films.
Throughout the film, only 1 person who supports Micky. She is the sweetheart Charlene (Amy Adams). Although fun, this role does not give a chance for Adams to appear prominent.
Wahlberg showing the character that makes us care about him and wondering, "Is he going to be real men and assert his attitude?" Instead, we will not ask, "Will he become champion?" because this question becomes important. Was his attempt to become independent and separated men from the bondage of his mother and Dick, and rather than fight in the ring that became the highlight of The Fighter.
At this point, the film becomes dishonest. Screenplay based on real life should be based on facts that really happened. However, The Fighter betray this notion by making interpretations that are designed to please the people portrayed in this film. As a result, there is a story of a character shift focus to his career as a boxer Micky, then as if the fighter tells of Mickey career journey alone. This displacement is enough to make us focus frowned.
